What Does Mother's Day Mean To You?

Wong Shu Lee

  May 06, 2021

For most people, Mother’s Day is a time to reflect and show gratitude to the women and mothers who have been mentors and caregivers; ultimately those who help shape us into who we are. In honour of this special day, I’ve collected women in my family to tell you what Mother’s Day means to them.

What My Mum Thinks About Mother’s Day

“Being a mother is not easy, but at the same time, it’s the best gift in life. Raising up a child is a rewarding journey as you can see how your kid is becoming more mature day by day. The bond between a mum and her kid is unparalleled. Although we can feel the love between each other, Mother’s Day is the day that I expect you to express your love to me.”

What My Grandmother Thinks About Mother’s Day

“Those days we couldn’t really provide much to our children. All we could do was try our best to make sure there was bread on the table. I used to work on a rubber farm when they were small. It was really a tough time but everything paid off when I saw all my children grow up and have their careers and families eventually. I felt grateful when all my children and grandchildren celebrated Mother’s Day with me.”

What My Married Cousin Thinks About Mother’s Day

“Before I became a mother, I never knew I could love someone so much. Now I finally understand the meaning of unconditional love. Looking at my baby girl, I want to give her all the best things in the world and wish her to be happy all the time. This makes me realize how much love my mum has given to me and my siblings. After being a mother, Mother’s Day becomes more significant to me as it is the best opportunity to express my love to my mum.”

What I Think About Mother’s Day

Mothers love their children the moment they are born. Although like many other celebrations (Father’s Day, Valentine’s Day, Christmas Day, etc.), Mother’s Day is commercialized by marketers, it shouldn’t be an excuse to stop us from expressing our love and appreciation to mothers.

On this special day, make sure you spend quality time with your mother and do something or give her something that would make her happy. If you’re unable to meet your mother due to MCO, let’s give her a video call and say something sweet to her.

For mothers, thank you for taking care of and supporting their children at all times, making them good persons that can make good impacts on society. Thanks for being a mother.

We wish all mothers a Happy Mother’s Day!
