Turning Predicament to Possibilities

  February 03, 2021

Amidst all the negativity surrounding and causing a surreal and difficult time for us,  we have slowly but surely begun to allow time to dictate our lives and emotions.

One thing we know for sure is that the Earth is gravely sick- and there’s nothing we can do about it other than complying with our SOP’s.

Employees are in constant distress over the fact that they might lose their jobs and source of income; students, particularly fresh grads, are doubting and having concerns over their futures. Sadly, some have completely given up on hope and just let fate decide and take its course.

On the other hand, there are people who still see hopes at the end of this seemingly endless tunnel.

If you’re feeling lost and afraid, know that you’re not alone. Here are some things to remember:

  1. This will all go away someday.

Yes. This is a difficult time for everyone, but it is just that- a time.

It is especially important to hold a positive mindset, especially now of all times, to manage through this obstacle. One day when we all manage to come out of this, we will all look back and realise how strong we were, as the survivors of this grand-scale virus outbreak.

  1. Recognise that you have support systems.

Sticks in a bundle are for sure stronger than a single twig that breaks so easily.

Here in Malaysia, we practice collectivism culture. You will always have someone with you. Be it a community, family and friends or even online strangers. Don't be afraid to reach out for help.

  1. Remind yourself of the good things in life.

Some circumstances right now may be a tad bit difficult to change or simply contribute to your feeling of defenselessness.

But I believe there is always a certain something that we all hold dear to our hearts. Things that are delightful and bring us a warm sensation whenever someone brings it up during a simple conversation. Make a list of those things that you appreciate and hang on to them.

Life is simply too short to dwell on the things that weigh us down. Focus on the faint force of light at the end of this virus-y tunnel and let us all move forward to a better tomorrow.
