Let's Make A Difference

Wong Shu Lee

  October 23, 2021

On the fourth Saturday of October, an unofficial holiday called Make A Difference Day is observed every year to emphasize on volunteerism and community service. This day encourages everyone to get active in their community and do charitable works.

Although we are no obliged to get ourselves involved in charitable works, volunteering to the community can be very gratifying and deeply rewarding. Millions of people give to charity on a regular basis to support causes they believe in, as well as for the positive effect it has on their own lives.

So, in conjunction with the Make A Difference Day, we’re hereby to share some easy, simple, fun tips for making a difference!

#1 Raise money for a good cause.

Do you know, social media can be used to raise money for good causes. You can share charity campaigns for the organisations that you support on your social media to invite friends to support the same cause with you. Besides, some people ask friends to donate to charities for their birthday presents.

By making your online interactions less about yourself and more about making a positive difference for others, you'll likely feel better about yourself and boost your happiness.

#2 Leave kind words for others who contribute something positive.

Instead of just clicking away after enjoying a video, picture, or article, take a moment to leave a kind note for the person who created it or shared it. Devote a bit more time than it would take to simply click a like button, and instead say something genuine and from your heart.

The person who received kind words will really appreciate it and you'll leave feeling more satisfied than you would have had you skipped leaving a kind comment.

#3 Donate to a good cause.

You don’t need ten thousand ringgit to make a difference in someone’s life. Even the cost of a cup of bubble tea could result in a week’s worth of meals for a starving child, much-needed medical attention, and even improved schooling. And this is only an example, you can donate your money to support any cause that you believe.

We don’t live in a perfect world, and there’s never going to be a perfect time to give—but there are always people out there in need of help.

This holiday is the perfect way for us to give something back to the communities in which we live, work and/or play. Anyone can participate in this day by picking an area of need that exists in your community and then finding a way to fix it. This allows us to not only feel good by giving back, but also helps to improve the communities for the people living in them.

Let’s make a difference!
