Celebrating Hari Raya 2021

Hari Raya Aidilfitri is approaching, many might have the feeling of Déjà vu as many states are entering MCO and conditional MCO again before Raya, just like what happened last year.

Last week, the National Security Council (NSC) released standard operating procedures (SOPs) for this upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

Though visiting is allowed in MCO, CMCO, and RMCO areas, house owners must ensure that social distancing is being practised and the number of guests must be according to the size of the house with physical distancing in place.

Moreover, the purpose of visiting is to bond with your friends and families and to send greetings over. It’s best not to abuse the relaxation to do things that may increase the risk of infection. For instance, meal-sharing is not encouraged. However, you can pre-packed home-cooked dishes or kuih-muih for your visitors.

To stop the spread of coronavirus, we highly recommend everyone to stay at home and celebrate Raya with your nuclear family. Here are some activities that can add more joy and fun to the celebration.

Make your own cookies and kuih Raya

Let’s dedicate the extra pockets of time you have at home to the kitchen! As you and your family members are staying at home during this Hari Raya, it's the perfect time for you to put on your baker's hat and try making some of your favourite Raya treats.

Teach your elders how to video call

Since you can’t bring your elders out to visit relatives, let’s bridge the physical distance with technology and teach your older parents, grandparents, and relatives how to video call! Please be sure to be patient, go slowly, and take it one step at the time when you do this - understand that it may be difficult for people who are not tech-savvy to get comfortable with gadgets that may intimidate them. All this will be worth it when you get to see their familiar faces on your screens.

Send surprise gifts to family and friends

Even if you can't meet them physically, you can still show your friends and family you're thinking about them by sending over a surprise gift that will make them smile. You can book a good meal or desserts and get them delivered to the doorstep of your loved ones.

In a nutshell, we hope everyone is able to enjoy the festival without risking their health. Let’s adhere to the SOPs and pray for the nation. Hopefully, by the next Raya, we can celebrate the festival happily without all these restrictions.
